We’ve got the new Microsoft Surface Book i7 in the office and we’ll be unboxing it for you and take a quick look at some of the best new features that business users care about.
To start we have the magnesium alloy body that is basically the exact same as the previous generation of Surface Books. Due to upgraded tech specs, the new i7 is a little heavier, but the change is subtle in our hands.
The Surface Book i7’s bread and butter is the improved tech specs, with an i7 processor, up to 16 gb of RAM, and 1 TB of storage. It also houses a Nvidia GeForce GTX 965M GPU. For a similar GPU in the Macbooks, you’ll have to upgrade to the 15-inch model.
Be warned, the GPU is inside of the keyboard, so detaching the screen to use the laptop as a tablet nullifies the power added.
The Surface Book i7 supports three different modes. Regular laptop mode, clipboard mode, and detachable draw mode where it becomes a 13.5-inch screen tablet. We have the included Surface Pen here as well. Here Microsoft takes advantage of a 3,000 x 2,000 pixel resolution to give users more options when thinking about a laptop.
For business users on the go, you’ll be happy to hear that Microsoft has boosted the battery life of the Surface Book line up to 16 hours with performance base keyboard attached. Without it, battery life suffers slightly, at up to 12 hours.
It has two USB 3.0 ports, and a SD card reader alongside two surface connect ports, a headset jack, and mini display port.
There’s no fingerprint scanner on this device, but you can unlock it using facial recognition with Windows Hello. And you’ll get the Surface Pen included in the box for drawing and writing on the touch screen.
And of course, the Surface Book i7 comes with Windows 10 fully loaded.
