Dell Inc. has increased by 100,000 the number of laptop batteries it is recalling due to a potential fire hazard, while Toshiba Corp. said it would take part in Sony Corp.'s voluntary battery replacement program kicked off Thursday. Fujitsu Ltd. indicated that it was also considering a voluntary recall.
Sony expects the Apple and Dell battery recalls to cost between $190 million to $285 million. It said the figure represents the cost of replacement battery packs and any other related costs.
L.M. Ericsson Telephone Co. is recalling all R520m handsets, its first handset for GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) networks. The phones have battery management problems, the Swedish phone maker said Thursday.
