Open-Xchange, formerly Netline Internet Service, has released its well regarded open-source collaboration server for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), as part of the company's program of broadening its cross-platform support. Open-Xchange is the main commercial, open-source alternative to proprietary systems such as Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino and Novell GroupWise.
Novell Inc. says it is continuing its push for open platform computing with the release of new systems management and collaboration offerings for Linux. Last month at its Brainshare user conference in Salt Lake City, the vendor introduced Zenworks 7, a new version of its systems management product.
Novell Inc. is opening code from NetMail as part of a project to create an open source collaboration server, company Chairman and CEO Jack Messman said Tuesday during a keynote at the LinuxWorld trade show. Novell also plans to expand its presence in the data center and release more Linux products for companies with a goal to "harden" the open source operating system for corporate use. "CIOs want to simplify and streamline IT," Messman said.
