Motorola Inc. is advising users of several models of its Oncore GPS (Global Positioning Satellite) receiver units that a software glitch will cause the devices to display the incorrect date for a one-second period towards the end of November.
Sprint Corp. announced two US$1 billion deals Wednesday, tapping Nortel Networks Corp. and Lucent Technologies Inc. to provide products for the build out of Sprint's upgraded wireless network.
Claude E. Shannon, viewed by some as the father of digital communications and information theory, died this past Saturday. He was 84. Shannon, related to Thomas Edison, is best known for his paper "A Mathematical Theory of Communication," which has been credited with assisting in the evolution of modern telecommunications, the Internet, compact disc and satellite technology.
While Lucent Technologies Inc. this month said it would spin off a new company whose products and services would focus on enterprise customers, it will stop short of populating the new firm with a full range of LAN and WAN products.
