Hewlett-Packard Co. easily held on to the top spot in Latin America's PC market in 2002, but its market share shrunk significantly as uncertainty over its merger with Compaq Computer Corp. turned off many buyers, according to a study from Gartner Inc.'s Dataquest Inc. unit.
An additional 1,800 employees will be cut from the ranks at Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP) by the end of its 2003 fiscal year, according to the company's recent filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
In an effort to streamline its product portfolio Compaq Computer Corp. is dropping its well-known Armada and Deskpro product names, as well as several other brands. The company will unveil a new name on Monday for all its products targeted at business users.
