Application Development: Are you spending more on test time than show time?

Over 50 per cent of the software development lifecycle is spent on testing, according to recent research by CA Technologies.

“That’s like a band that spends half the concert tuning up,” says Huw Price, Vice President of Continuous Delivery at CA Technologies.   “It’s important, but it’s not what anyone pays to see.”

Improving the quality of your test data is the latest front in the quest for agility in the delivery of applications.  The new alternative is complete test data management (TDM) — a central automated solution to create and maintain the test data needed to evaluate evolving applications.

A recent study by Forrester Research shows that implementing a TDM solution has a big impact. Companies that invested in this approach saw a 287 per cent payback within a period of six months.  Not only that, Price says, companies have been able to reduce test data provisioning time by 95 per cent and increase test data quality and efficiency by 60 per cent.
