Bitcoin has grown to a billion-dollar market. The number of Bitcoins has been growing since the creation of the virtual currency in 2009, and has now reached approximately 16.95 million in March 2018. The number of Bitcoin ATMs has also risen steadily across the world since 2016, growing from 500 to more than 2,500. CITIES IN THE U.S.

San Francisco
Population: 864,816
In 2014, California Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill legalizing the use of Bitcoins. The city is also home to Coinbase, which developed the world’s most popular Bitcoin wallet, and is on Startup Genome’s Blockchain Ecosystems to Watch list. The list’s top ecosystems are judged by their venture capital investments in blockchain and whether or not they have a special focus on the technology.
