Apple Inc. is poised to unveil the latest iteration of its iPad tablet device in two weeks according to several technology blog sites.
Many industry watchers expect the fifth generation iPad will sport a 9.7-inch display and will be incrementally lighter and slimmer than the previous version, a post on the AllThingsD site said.
The site said the device will be introduced in an invitation-only event on October 22. Apple also rolled out new tablets on October 23.
The new Mac pro and OS X Mavericks will likely share the stage with the new iPad. Mavericks will replace the Mountain Lion OS this year.
The Apple-designed 64-bit A7X system-on-a-chip (SoC) processor, slightly different from the one that appeared in the iPhone 5S, will be embedded on the new tablet. Apple will also be testing it Touch ID fingerprint sensor on its latest iPad, according to other reports.
Other prognosticators believe Apple will also introduce a second-generation iPad Mini with a Retina-quality display, said the technology publication, Computerworld.com.
