Wi-Fi HaLow May Be The Next IoT Enabler

The tech industry is touting Wi-Fi HaLow, a low-power version of standard Wi-Fi that can penetrate walls and operate on wearable devices, as the IoT’s next big enabler.

Wi-Fi HaLow-enabled devices will play an important role in smart home environments, enabling users to take advantage of its longer range and lower power for applications such as battery-powered cameras, video baby monitors and other smart home products.

Wi-Fi HaLow also promises to be fully utilized in education, industrial manufacturing, healthcare and the realization of smart cities.

Immediate devices where Wi-Fi HaLow can be used include surveillance cameras and tablets, which are ubiquitous in many industrial environments.

Therefore, Wi-Fi HaLow fits very well with Wi-Fi 6, an internal Wi-Fi protocol used in many schools, as well as in commercial, industrial and residential applications for the Internet of Things, which requires fast data rates and low latencies.

The Wi-Fi Alliance recently announced a certification program for products using Wi-Fi HaLow, paving the way for widespread use of Wi-Fi HaLow for many years to come.
