Much of the buzz was around Microsoft’s release of the Windows 10 operating system, however the server version of the new OS is equally significant, according to a Microsoft certified solutions expert and trainer.
IT leaders and decision makers will be focusing on Windows Server 10 as IT budgets loosen a bit to allow them to explore server-side applications, said J. Peter Bruzzese, co-founder of software training firm Clip Training and strategic technical consultant at cloud email security and archiving company Mimecast.
Windows Server is also attractive to many organizations that have no switched to Microsoft cloud offerings such as Azure and Office 365, he said.
“With all eyes on Windows 10 for PCs and mobile devices, don’t miss what’s coming on the server side,” he said in a recent article on Infoworld.com.
Bruzzese said It professionals should look out for these sets of enhancements in Windows Server 10:
Enhancements relating Hyper-V such as VMCX/VMRS, a new binary configuration format that improves read/write efficiency and reduces data corruption in the event of a storage failure
Rolling Hyper-V cluster that allows IT professionals to add Windows Server 10 nodes when working with Windows Server 2012 R2
The storage quality service feature improves storage QoS provided by Windows Server 2012 R2. This enables admins to centrally monitor and manage storage performance
The OneGet module becomes a formal part of Windows Server 10. This enables admins to discover and install software packages from the Internet and makes software discovery, installation and inventory easier.
