Western Digital faces lawsuit over unreported flaw in SSD

Western Digital is facing a class-action lawsuit after California resident Nathan Krum alleged that his SanDisk 2TB Extreme Pro SSD failed due to an undisclosed flaw.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court in San Jose, California, also alleges that the defect affects other SanDisk Extreme Pro, Extreme Portable, Extreme Pro Portable, and WD My Passport SSD models sold since January 2023.

Krum claims that his drive stopped working as expected and that he was unable to access the data stored on it. He also alleges that Western Digital is aware of the problem and has not done enough to fix it. The lawsuit seeks damages, legal costs, and other relief.

In May, Western Digital issued a firmware update to address a different issue with the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2, SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable SSD V2, and WD My Passport SSD products. However, Krum claims that this update did not fix the problem with his drive.
