A lack of features such as mobile access and content-sharing has prompted Symantec Corp. to announce it is shutting down its cloud-based backup solution, Backup Exec.cloud.

Cloud data backup solutions have become prevalent in the enterprise and SME space in recent years. Symantec introduced Backup Exec.cloud in along with its Backup Exec 2012 product suite. The cloud-based solution is a standalone system for off-premise data protection.
