Snowflake gears up to launch generative AI

Snowflake, a leading cloud data platform, is gearing up to bring the power of generative AI to its customers.

The company has made several investments in generative AI in recent months, including the acquisition of Neeva AI and the development of its own LLMs.

At Snowflake Summit 2023, the company announced several new generative AI capabilities which include a new LLM for document understanding, which can help businesses extract insights from unstructured data, conversational search feature that allows users to interact with data in a natural language way. It also introduced a new security model that protects the privacy of sensitive data when it is used with generative AI models.

In his keynote address, Frank Slootman, chairman and CEO of Snowflake, acknowledged that the excitement about AI is considerable, but emphasized that his own business must establish a claim for AI and LLMs.

Snowflake’s LLM is powered by Applica’s generative AI technology, and the company is collaborating with partners to create additional generative AI applications. For example, the company is collaborating with Applica, which it acquired in September 2022. It is incorporating the AI specialist’s multimodal LLM into some of its new products, such as Document AI, which is currently in private preview and uses AI to help customers find insight in unstructured data to develop a solution that helps businesses automate the mortgage approval process.
