Report Reveals Details of Irish Health Cyberattack

A recent report on the nature of a cyber attack targeting the Irish health service in May showed that the attack could have been worse if the organisation’s data had been destroyed in the process.

Cyber security experts described the Irish technology systems as “frail” and said that the organisation had missed several opportunities to detect warning signs. Based on the report, further revelations show that the organisation’s systems remain vulnerable to potential attacks in the near future. Finally, the report showed that “transformational change” in technology and cyber security were needed to protect them from future attacks.

During the attack, more than 80% of the IT infrastructure had been affected. Other deadly effects of the attack include the loss of important patient data and diagnoses, which has had a serious impact on health care and care, and the loss of confidential data that the attackers vow to release.
