Red Hat Close CentOS Linux 8 Support, Are There Stand-Ins?

Red Hat will end support for CentOS Linux 8 on December 31 with extended CentOS Linux 8 zero-day support that will continue until January 31, 2022.

There are other options for users to choose from, including CentOS Stream, AlmaLinux, Amazon Linux AMI 3.0, CloudLinux TuxCare Extended Lifecycle, CloudLinux OS, HPE ClearOS, Oracle Linux, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Rocky Linux and Ubuntu.

Upon careful consideration of these options, AlmaLinux is considered a replica of RHEL and can perform almost the same function as Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). The ELevate project sponsored by the team behind AlmaLinux will help ensure better integration and migration between major versions of RHEL derivatives. AlmaLinux users will also enjoy regular patches and updates for Linux kernel and core packages, patch delivery service-level agreements (SLA)s, and 24/7 incident support from CloudLinux. The Amazon Linux AMI 3.0 runs on the Amazon Elastic Compute (Amazon EC2) and offers a cheaper alternative for Amazon EC2 users.
