While Lenovo is preparing to buy the Motorola smart phone division from Google, the manufacturer still has to make money. This week at the IFA consumer electronics conference in Berlin it touted the latest version of the Moto X, its leading Android device with a 5.2-in. screen.
Daniel Bader of MobileSyrup.ca was able to get a look at it and was impressed with the Super AMOLED screen and the construction.
“It can’t be overstated how much nicer this new Moto X feels than its predecessor,” he writes. “The aluminum frame, the hard, tactile metal buttons and the smooth contoured back merge with an understated, minimal design that should appeal to all audiences. Motorola’s president, Rick Osterloh, admitted that the Moto X sold to a higher percentage of women smartphone buyers than any device in its history.”
While the screen is bigger than the first Moto X, the new device is thinner.
It also feels faster than any Android device he’s tested, Bader added.
It runs version 4.4 of the Android operating system and comes in two versions: with 16 or 32 GB of storage. Motorola says the battery can last up to 8 hours on a 15 minute charge.
The camera has been upgraded to a 13 MP unit, up from 10 MP from the previous model, with a faster lens. It is powered by a 2.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor.
