Microsoft has released an emergency out-of-band (OOB) update KB5020953 for Windows 10 systems to fix the recent OneDrive crash.
The KB5020953 update was released to fix the OneDrive crash issue that led to the signing out or unlinking of OneDrive accounts, websites, and folders from Microsoft Teams and SharePoint.
The build numbers for this OOB update KB5020953 have been increased to 19042.2194, 19043.2194, and 19044.2194. This update is available for Arm and x86/64 versions of Windows 10 20H2, 21H1, 21H2, and 22H2. Microsoft has not revealed how it solved this problem.
Windows 10, version 22H2; Windows 10, version 21H2; Windows 10, version 21H1; and Windows 10, version 20H2 are among the affected platforms.
The bug is the second major one that occurred since the release of the October Patch Tuesday earlier this month, the first causing massive network problems due to TLS/SSL handshake failures.
“It is a cumulative update, so you do not need to apply any previous update before installing it. To get the standalone package for KB5020953, search for it in the Microsoft Update Catalog. You can manually import these updates into Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) and Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager,” Microsoft says in a blog post.
According to the changelog, Microsoft has fixed a problem that caused Microsoft OneDrive to stop working after the device is turned off, stopping syncing, or logging out of the account.
As this is an out-of-band update, it is not available in the settings and must be downloaded manually from the Microsoft Update Catalog website.
