Microsoft axe Windows Insider MVP program

Microsoft has announced that it will be discontinuing the Windows Insider MVP program on December 31, 2023.

The program was designed to reward and recognize the most passionate and knowledgeable Windows users, who volunteered their time and expertise to test pre-release versions of Windows and provide feedback to Microsoft.

In a statement, a Microsoft spokesperson said that the company is consolidating its MVP programs in order to “provide a more consistent and streamlined experience for MVPs across Microsoft.” All existing Windows Insider MVPs will be nominated to participate in the Microsoft MVP Program, which has similar benefits and opportunities.

The decision to discontinue the Windows Insider MVP program comes at a time of significant reorganization within Microsoft. In September, longtime Windows and Devices chief Panos Panay abruptly resigned. Panay is said to have been disillusioned with cost-cutting measures at the division, and is now running the Devices and Services business at Amazon.

Some Windows Insider MVPs have expressed regret over the decision to discontinue the program, calling it a valuable consumer resource and lamenting the fact that Microsoft’s flagship product will no longer have an MVP community around it.
