Instagram announced that the issues that led to a multi-user outage of its platform on Thursday had been fixed.
According to the outage tracking website Downdetector.com, up to 24,000 people reported difficulties accessing the social network, causing users around the world to complain about malfunctioning feeds, problems checking DMs, and other issues.
Some users experienced slowdowns with the Instagram app as a result of the outage, while others were unable to log in. Some Instagram users were also unable to see new posts in their feeds, open Stories, or receive or send direct messages, leading to the hashtag #instagramdown trending on Twitter.
“We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing Instagram. We are working hard to restore normality as soon as possible. Sorry for any inconvenience, and please be patient,” Instagram said in a statement confirming the outage.
Later, it declared its return, saying, “and we are back! We have fixed the problem that caused today’s outage and apologize for the inconvenience.”
The cause of the outage is still unknown.
