Google lays off hundreds of recruiters

Google is laying off hundreds of recruiters from its global team, as the tech giant continues to slow hiring. The company declined to say what percentage of its recruiting workforce is affected, but said it plans to retain a “significant majority.”

The layoffs come amid a broader economic slowdown, which has led many tech companies to cut back on hiring. Google parent Alphabet cut about 12,000 jobs in January, and other tech giants like Meta, Microsoft, and Amazon have also announced layoffs in recent months.

Google spokesperson Courtenay Mencini said in a statement that the company made the “hard decision” to reduce the size of its recruiting team in order to “continue our important work to ensure we operate efficiently.”

“We’re supporting everyone impacted with a transition period, outplacement services, and severance as they look for new opportunities here at Google and beyond,” Mencini said.
