Former Officials Call for Resolution To 5G Aviation Dispute

Six former chairmen of the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) have called on the Biden administration to investigate and address the issue of 5G spectrum use and the attitude of the aviation industry, which is delaying its adoption due to the aviation risks it poses.

The former officials expressed concern about the Federal Aviation Administration’s decision to review the FCC directive, which allows the use of the C-band spectrum for wireless use, and urged authorities to “resolve the FAA’s concerns expeditiously, but this debate should not be fought publicly in a way that undermines consumer confidence in the process.”

The six former chairmen of the United States Federal Communications Commission include Ajit Pai, Tom Wheeler, Julius Genachowski, Michael Copps, Michael Powell, and Mignon Clyburn. The issue at stake is bothering the FAA, which recently informed the public that 5G radio spectrum could be harmful because it could interfere with sensitive aircraft electronics such as altimeters.
