Electronics Arts (EA) has agreed to respect the pre-sale prices for its Fifa 23 Ultimate Edition on India’s Epic Games store. The company mistakenly put pricing at 4.80 rupees ($0.06).
In India, the 2023 version costs 4,800 rupees ($60), while the Standard Edition costs 3,499 rupees ($44).
Shoppers rushed to pre-order the game last month after the decimal error, slashing the online price of the game by 99 per cent. Fans around the world were alerted and information travelled widely on social media.
Although the error was quickly corrected, shoppers were concerned that their purchases could be refunded or eventually cancelled. However, EA Sports and Epic Games emailed shoppers this week to inform them of the company’s decision to reward their purchases.
The Fifa team at EA Sports admitted that it was “our mistake.” Fifa 23 will be EA Sports’ final game after EA Sports announced in May that it would cease production of titles under the Fifa brand. The publisher will continue to produce football games, but from 2023 it will appear under a new banner, EA Sports FC.
