Amazon to invest $7.8 billion in Ohio

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has unveiled its plan to inject $7.8 billion into Ohio by 2030, signaling a significant expansion of its data center operations and a boost to the local economy.

Having already invested $6.3 billion in the state since 2015, Amazon is doubling down on its commitment to Ohio. This fresh investment will not only create hundreds of new job opportunities but also provide crucial support to thousands of local businesses throughout the various stages of construction, operations, and maintenance of the expanded AWS facilities.

Although Amazon already has data centers in Franklin and Licking counties, the company is reportedly considering the construction of new data centers in central Ohio to cater to growing demand.

The majority of the investment will be allocated to the establishment of state-of-the-art data centers, equipped with cutting-edge infrastructure like computer servers, data storage drives, and networking equipment. These advancements are essential for fueling cloud computing services. As a result, the initiative is expected to generate approximately 230 direct jobs and around 1,000 support roles.

Ohio Lieutenant Governor John Husted views this move as a major step forward for the state, positioning Ohio as a thriving technology hub and preparing it for the expanding role of cloud computing and artificial intelligence in the economy and everyday life.
