Stephen has worked in IT for over 30 years, starting his first IT training and consulting company while still in high school. He graduated Magna Cum Laude and on the Dean’s Honour Roll with an Honours B.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Ottawa. Believing in lifelong learning, Stephen completed further studies in areas including Financial Securities (completing the Canadian Securities Course), Executive Management (completing Queens Executive Leadership program) and Project Management (receiving the Project Management Professional – PMP – designation).
Stephen is currently the Chief Information Officer and IT Director at the Medical Council of Canada where he is responsible for all technology related to the delivery of examinations for physicians, applications for medical licensure, and credential verification as well as for the internal operations of the organization. Prior to his appointment at the MCC he was the CIO and IT Director Algonquin College, where he was responsible for all technologies for learning, teaching and business operations. Earlier, he was founder and CEO of the online music company Iceradio.ca and was co-founder and CTO of sofTV.net, a multi-media software development company. Before that, he worked as a consultant at Nortel and as a programmer/analyst. Stephen has held several Board positions including volunteer positions of President and as Director – Stroke Campaigns at the Gloucester Cumberland chapter of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario. He served on the Board of Directors at sofTV.net, and was elected by his colleagues as Governor on the Board of Algonquin College. Stephen was elected as Chair of OCCCIO (Ontario Council of College Chief Information Officers), an organization representing the 24 Ontario Colleges, and as a Director of CCCCCIO (Canadian Council of College Chief Information Officers) representing Canadian Colleges.
