Virtualization for all firms, big and small

We’ve done a lot of stories about virtualization and how it can beused to create greater utilization and efficiency in the data centre. In many cases, though, it feels like we’re talking only about bigenterprises, with lots of IT staff who are able to deal with themanagement issues associated with virtualization.

On the other hand, I know of people like Nigel Fortlage, acontributor to our Enterprise Insights blog and who we’ve turned to forcommentary on a range of issues. Although Nigel’s firm, GHY, is a majorforce in Manitoba, his technology team has always been extremely lean. That’s one of the reasons he was called in to help us present a Webinar next Wednesday, Aug. 19 at 1:00 p.m. where he’ll discuss his virtualization journey in more detail. Full details:

There comes a time when just keeping things running is notenough. That is what Winnipeg-based George Henry Young International’s(GHY) three-man IT team came to realize when they found themselvesspending almost all of their time keeping the company’s servers goingand nothing else.

GHY set out on Phase 1 of its virtualization journey four yearsago to remedy this situation, and is about to engage in Phase 3: beyondthe servers. They’ve never looked back.
