EMC Corp. announced Monday that it has established two of its separate businesses, Mozy Inc. and Pi Corp., into a new company called Decho Corp.
Decho will continue to offer the Mozy-branded online backup service but will also over time introduce new cloud-based services.
EMCsaid the drivers behind the new business include the fact that with theexplosion of personal and corporate data and the shift from informationgoing physical to digital, there has not been a “parallel shift” in theway data is organized and preserved in digital form.
Decho services, EMC said, will help people manage “their digital echo” with the cloud-based services to come.
Decho also plans to establish a Canadian development and operations centre in Montreal.
