Cisco Systems has doubled the density of its Aggregation Services Router 9000Series to what the company says is theindustry's highest-capacity and highest density edge router. It did itby adding a single-slot 16 x 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GE) line carddelivering over 100 Gbps. The move is aimed at helping carries andservice providers meet the expected soaring use of video and mobileInternet applications. The new card can grow to 320 x 10GE, or 32 x 100GE per system, with as many as 6.4 terabits per second total capacity.”Since we launched the Cisco ASR 9000, it has been deployed in a widerange of edge applications from carrier Ethernet, IP RAN, and consumerand business services,” said Praveen Akkiraju, vice-president andgeneral manager of Cisco's carrier routing business unit. Serviceproviders using the ASR 9000 include Cogent, Softbank, Telstra andVerizon Wireless.
