A look at CDN

With CDN naming cloudcomputing as it’s top newsmaker for 2010 (a break from tradition in picking atrend, as Paolo Del Nibletto explains) I thought it would be interesting totake a look at some of our past CDN top newsmakers.

2009: This year the choice waspretty clear. For presiding over the downfall of a once iconic Canadian ITpioneer, former Nortel Networks president and CEO Mike Zafirovski was our topnewsmaker.

2008: The year was all aboutvirtualization, and leading the charge in Canadaas an early evangelist was our top newsmaker, VMware Canada general manager Grant Aitken.

2007:: Some years the topnewsmaker is a fierce debate, other years it’s a no-brainer. In 2007, it wasdefinitely the latter. With the formerly proudly channel-adverse companyjumping into the channel with both feet, Dell’s first-ever channel chief GregDavis was our top newsmaker.

2006: Once an iconic Canadiantechnology brand, the blockbuster US$5.4 billion acquisition of Markham, Ont.-basedgraphics giant ATI Corp. by processor manufacturer AMD Corp. propelled formerATI CEO David Orton to the top of our newsmaker list.

2005: For whatCDN called the comeback story of the year after hisunceremonious dismissal from Ingram Micro, Murray Wright’s move to thepresidency at Lenovo Canada earned him the nod as our top newsmaker of theyear.
