As the busy holiday shopping season gets into full swing, a federal security agency affiliated with the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is warning that attacks by malicious hackers against e-commerce Web sites and other companies doing business online are on the rise.
Online music downloading service MP3.com Inc. was ordered Monday to pay $53.4 million to Universal Music Group Inc. (UMG) to settle charges of copyright infringement, two months after the federal judge handling the case ruled that MP3.com had willfully violated copyrights held by the record company.
Problems with a routine upgrade of mainframe software at Automatic Data Processing Inc. (ADP) caused a system crash on Nov. 3 that temporarily left customers of at least five brokerages unable to get real-time updates of key information such as the cost of the online stock trades they were making
