San Jose, Calif.-based Cisco Systems Inc. has expanded its portfolio of intrusion protection offerings by introducing the Cisco IDS Host Sensor, a host-based solution for enterprise-wide intrusion protection. According to a company press release, the IDS Host Sensor proactively detects malicious activity on a network and blocks access to server resources before serious damage occurs. The software intercepts system and API level calls to the operating system before the OS processes the calls. Then it determines if the calls are malicious or not. If so, the IDS Host Sensor
