Facing a downturn in the U.S. and Western European markets, PC makers will look to Latin America to boost sales in 2001, where they will reduce prices to help increase shipments, International Data Corp. (IDC) Latin America said in a summary of a new report on the PC market to be issued next week.
Nortel Networks Corp. will consolidate its Latin American wireless and local Internet access operations during 2001 by building broadband networks with local partners, the new vice-president of Nortel for that region said Monday.
Internet penetration is driving growth in the IT Latin American market, but in order to gain competitive advantage in the market, vendors need to consider cultural and educational differences and develop their strategies around them, according to an industry analyst.
