An updated version of the XML (Extensible Markup Language) specification for Analysis (XMLA) is available, Microsoft Corp., Hyperion Solutions Corp., and SAS Institute Inc. said Thursday.
Version 1.1 of the XMLA specification is the first version of the specification created in conjunction with the members of the XMLA Advisory Council, a group of business intelligence software vendors that back XMLA, Microsoft, Hyperion, and SAS said in a statement.
XMLA should help makers of sophisticated analytical applications ready their products for a Web services world. It is a set of XML Message Interfaces that use the industry standard SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) to define the data access interaction between a client application and an analytical data provider working over the Internet. The first version was announced last year.
Additionally, the XMLA Advisory Council announced seven new members, including SAP AG, bringing the membership count to 27. Microsoft, Hyperion and SAS are also members.
