Xerox to axe up to 400 North America staff

Xerox Corp. plans to cut between 350 and 400 jobs at its North American Solutions Group, or about 10 per cent of the workforce in that division, as part of its ongoing cost-cutting measures, the office equipment company said Wednesday.

The job cuts will have no impact on direct sales or service, according to Xerox spokesperson Christa Carone. Employees who are set to lose their jobs, who will be mostly support and administrative staff, will be notified in November, she said.

The North American Solutions Group oversees sales of products and services by the Xerox direct sales force in the U.S and Canada, Carone said.

The Stamford, Conn., company has achieved around US$1.3 billion in cost cuts in the last two years and plans to trim an additional US$1 billion from its books.
