Will online games hold key to big data roadmap?

It’s a massive understatement to say that getting a handle on big data is not going to be child’s play to IT managers within the next three to five years.

However, industry leaders interviewed by TechRepublic.com are suggesting that the online gaming industry will provide IT with the key to understanding big data’s role in their company’s data centre and help them develop a roadmap for the big data process and tools.

Take Graphic Processing Units, for instance. GPUs help game developers create realistic environments and effects such as those experienced in the car chase and shooting mayhem of the Grand Theft Auto franchise, but the parallel processing of GPUs can also be used to collect and analyze data for call centres and companies trying to make sense of social media data.
