Wi-Fi Zone finder makes map for travellers

If you’re looking for a public Wi-Fi access point in unknown environs, visit the Wi-Fi Alliance’s Wi-Fi Zone (www.wifizone.org). Here you’ll find a list of public wireless LAN (WLAN) service providers and their areas of coverage.

Simply access the “Zone finder” and plug in your coordinates. You don’t need to fill out every field – city, province and country will do. Press “submit” and the site presents a list of public WLAN sites in the vicinity that are known to the Alliance.

Brian Grimm, the Alliance’s spokesperson, said the list would grow as more providers signed on. He added that users will also be able to download a list of public WLANs and save it on their hard drives for future reference.
