Who to follow on Twitter on #FollowFriday

For Facebook, there’s sending friend requests, and for Google Plus, you add people to your circles. But as anyone who has a Twitter handle knows, on Twitter, we follow and we tweet at people.

Enter today’s #FollowFriday, or #FF. If you’ve been on Twitter and don’t know what this is, it’s a Friday standby where Twitter users recommend a list of accounts to others. For example, you might tweet, “#FF @itworldca @itbusinessca @compdealernews” to encourage your followers to follow these accounts, especially if you see value in their tweets.

Until the end of December, we’ll be posting an #FF every Friday to give you some ideas of who to follow in the IT community.

For this edition of #FF, here are a few Twitter handles that we think are worth a click on the “follow” button.

We’ve quoted Mark Goldberg a number of times as someone who’s in the know about the telecomms industry, with about three decades’ worth of experience in it. His tweets are a mix of the personal and the professional, with some of them featuring his own blog posts and analysis on the latest government spat with telecom companies, or on the competition for the wireless spectrum.

If you have any interest in privacy or security, or the laws surrounding how we deal with technology, Michael Geist is a good bet. A well-known speaker at conferences, an author of several books, and a regular contributor and source to widely read publications, Geist has a lot of people looking to him for comment when news breaks about NSA-style surveillance in Canada, or when the government rolls out new regulations or electronic services.

As an exec at Cisco Systems Inc., Sheila Jordan has a blog on Cisco’s website, showcasing her thoughts on business intelligence, customer relationship management, Web 2.0, collaboration technologies, and security. And the bonus in our eyes? She regularly tweets about meeting women in STEM, encouraging young women to pursue careers in those fields.

Check back here for our next edition of #FF next week, during a fortuitous Friday the 13.
