LAS VEGAS – VMware and HP Inc. are teaming up to improve their customer’s experiences with managing devices, according to news released at VMWorld, held in Las Vegas from Aug. 28 to 30.
The companies have announced that VMware’s Workspace ONE, an application and access management, endpoint management, and virtual application delivery solution, will be added to HP’s Device as a Service (DaaS) technology platform to simplify endpoint device management through the cloud.
HP DaaS combines hardware and lifecycle services to provide a “modern consumption model” to improve user experience and free up IT resources.
Workspace ONE is based on two other VMware products, AirWatch for endpoint management, and Horizon for virtual application delivery. It also received several expansions and upgraded add-on services of its own while at the 2017 VMWorld convention.
With Workspace ONE incorporated into HP DaaS, service agents will gain access to additional capabilities to better provide inclusive fleet management, which will increase employee efficiency, improve their user experience, and drive growth in a digital transformative workplace. Customers will be able to faster deploy security patches and OS updates – both on Android and iOS – as well as install software more reliably, and consolidate operational processes across all devices in real-time – on or off the domain.
“VMware Workspace ONE powered by AirWatch provides next-generation unified endpoint management that enables our customers to manage the complete lifecycle of the end points and applications over-the-air and in real-time,” Sumit Dhawan, senior vice president and general manager of end-user computing at VMware, explains in an Aug. 28 press release. “This partnership brings two industry-leading players together to deliver a complete solution for mutual customers looking to transform their end points from procurement to management into a predictable consumption-based service.”
In a world with multiple operating systems for customers to choose from, HP’s DaaS platform simplifies the complex management of such environments with a single contact point across all commercial devices and services. Users pay on a monthly per device basis, which “takes the day-to-day burden of managing devices away so IT can focus its time where it matters most,” the companies explain in the press release.
Ron Coughlin, president of personal systems at HP Inc., expresses his excitement about the partnership, saying the company believes “the strength of our combined platforms creates the next generation of device consumption for customers.”
He adds, “HP DaaS creates a breaking point from how devices have been sold and serviced for decades. It fundamentally changes how we see enterprise customers select, deploy, secure, manage and refresh multi OS and multi device environments.”
