Toronto firm rolls out Android tablets

Toronto-based electronics company, Senkatel Corp.is hoping to grab a slice of the K-12 educational market for mobile devices with its recent release of two new Google Android tablets.

The company’s T9702 tablet has a 9.7-inch, 1024×768 LCD screen while the T1011 model features a 10.1-inch, 1280×800 high definition LCD screen. Both devices use Intel Atom processors. The devices sell for $219 and $299 respectively.

The tablets also feature In-Plane Switching (IPS) which is a wide viewing angle screen technology. It is meant to maintain clear colour reproduction even at off-axis viewing angles.

The devices also have surface-mounted projected capacitive touch screens that track five simultaneous touch points.

“Our T1011 tablet includes both Intel Education Software (IES) package for student learning as well as the Senkatel TPM security enhancement to enable schools to protect their capital investments by deploying hardware-hardened deterrent solutions,” said Joseph Virginia, president of Senkatel.

The IES package provides tools for educators to facilitate teaching using the tablets. The TPM suite from Senkatel allows administrators to restrict access to certain web sites. It also allows administrators to remotely manage the T1011.

The tablets have built-in, battery free capacitive stylus that works with the Intel education software. Hardware options include a 250X magnification lens for science curriculum, and a thermal probe.

The T1011 has a ruggedized design to withstand accidental drops and is water resistant. The T9702 is equipped with Bluetooth 3.0 which allows wireless integration with a keyboard.
