According to ComputerWorld’s survey of 334 IT executives, a third plan to increase IT head count in the next year. That’s part of a continuing upward trend since the survey reported 20 per cent intended to increase head count in 2009. ON the flipside, about 12 per cent said they planned to decrease headcount.

The in-demand skills, though, will sound familiar to anyone who read our 2012 IT Salary Survey report: Programming and application development topped the list, while help desk and technical support and business intelligence skills were also in the top 10. Not only were those skills most in demand in our 2012 salary survey, the list was unchanged from the 2011 survey.
While those skill sets seem to be a perennial opportunity for putting food on the table, there are other skills demands that are reflective of the changing IT landscape: Mobile app and device management, virtualization and cloud/SaaS skills are also in demand.
