Tomorrow could be ugly

So maybe you’re not all that worried about the gloomsters anddoomsters who fret that hackers and malware and spyware and thewhole shebang threaten the very foundations of e-government ande-commerce. That’s fine. But you may wish to note in passing thatthe folks at Microsoft are taking it seriously.

According to Seattle tech writer Jane Hodges, Microsoft has fourteams of futurists busily figuring out what Tomorrow will looklike. Three of them are tackling the usual – HR, procurement,outsourcing and the like. The fourth? They’re dealing with a worldwhich has gone back to the future. It’s a technophobic place, badlyburned by a major crash of information systems which, among otherthings, burns everybody’s credit cards. Everybody’s also a Luddite.The winner at the wire? Underwood.
