Business process management –continually improving and transforming business processes across the organization – is heavily dependent on an IT platform that can help deliver results.
But not all suites have the same capabilities. Tibco Software Inc. believes it has filled a big hole in its application with the release of ActiveMatrix BPM 3.0, which includes case management and case data.
“The addition of case magment has really opened up our ability to appeal to enterprise customers,” Rachel Brennan, lead product marketing manager for the BPM line, said in an interview.
“This release means we can support all styles of business process, so we can go after enterprises to look after continually improving and transforming cross-functional business processes all their needs
Brennan explained that a case can be a product (say, an insurance claim or policy), or a person (a policy holder). As a result cases can involve a number of complex processes (the policy holder needs to change an address, for example, or buys an additional policy) whose effects ripple through business processes.
Previous versions of ActiveMatrix BPM included the ability to control dyanamic and event-driven processes, but didn’t have case management. As a result customers had to buy a separate application for that functionality.
Adding case management means the suite is taking “a big leap forward,” Brennan said.
Business users or authors create cases and the software creates a data respository for them. Modules can be turned on and off.
Other new features include enterprise-sized organization support, which means BPM 3.0 can scale up bigger than previous versions, and support for elastic organizations (think of retail chains) which regularly add branches.
The Spotfire dashboard has been improved to let users know what workloads are coming, and there is a new single inbox that covers all processes.
Although announced Tuesday, BPM 3.0 will be generally available May 15. Pricing was not disclosed.
