Telus launches online health care portal

Telus Corp. launched a new Web site today that showcases all of its e-health products and services, Telushealth.com.

Intended to consolidate information in one place, the new site will also serve as a portal for some of the services the company provides, and also contains loads of information for interested doctors, pharmacists, insurance providers and patients curious about what the telco is doing in the health care field.

For Telus, health care is big business — it has invested more than $1 billion in the line of business over the past decade, according to a press release the company published today.
The site is very similar to Telus’ consumer products Web page, which is quite user friendly, but the sheer volume of information is a bit daunting for the casual visitor.
There are sections on various kinds of electronic medical records, insurance claims and benefits, health analytics and all the different IT and connectivity products and services the company offers. Plus, much of the information is province-specific. The business intelligence/analytics section is intriguing, though the site doesn’t offer much more than an overview of how it works.

Telus says can help drug companies forecast demand for certain medication and pharmacies keep an eye on the local competition. For example:
“Pulling together data into five easy-to-read dashboards, IMS Business Intelligence quantifies sales potential within a pharmacy’s own postal code – helping pharmacy owners understand how they’re performing relative to the nearby competition.”
The database it draws on is “constantly updated and available 24/7, and includes information from 75 per cent of pharmacies nationally” according to the site.
