Telus expands 1X service

Telus Mobility on Friday said it is expanding its next-generation 1X wireless data network in Atlantic Canada.

Through a reciprocal roaming/resale agreement with Aliant Mobility – Atlantic Canada’s major service provider – Telus is providing wireless service to centres in New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

Telus’ 1X network offers mobile communications to the Internet and other data networks, and delivers business-focused mobile computing and productivity solutions, and consumer applications such as interactive gaming, ringtone and image downloads, and other multimedia applications.

Originally launched in Halifax and other major urban centres across Canada in June 2002, TELUS Mobility 1X service is now available to approximately 24 million Canadians, or 75 per cent of the population, the telco said.

The Atlantic expansion adds coverage for 500,000 potential clients in centres such as Sydney, Nova Scotia; St. John’s, Newfoundland; Fredericton, Saint John and Moncton, New Brunswick; and Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.
