Sybase Corp. is set to announce on Oct. 28 the availability of an upgrade to its enterprise portal software, the company said Friday.
Among the new features of the product, called Enterprise Portal 5.0, will be a new development environment called Portal Studio, which is intended to speed up the process of developing and deploying portlets, Sybase said. Portlets are reusable content elements that make up a portal site, such as an expense application or an e-mail program.
The product will also include Sybase’s Portal Framework, which includes a feature that lets an end user grab content from the Web and add it to a portal in the form of a new portlet. Portal Framework makes use of technology that Sybase gained through its acquisition of OnePage in April.
The product will also include a redesigned user interface intended to make the product easier to use and some improved security features, according to a brief statement Friday by Sybase. Enterprise Portal 5.0 will work with application servers from multiple vendors.
Details about pricing were not immediately available.
Sybase released a beta version of the product in August. It will compete in a crowded market with offerings from IBM Corp., Microsoft Corp., Oracle Corp., Sun Microsystems Inc., Plumtree Software Inc. and others.
