Two companies combined their technology in field administration and construction management to help construction projects better manage building components and visualize the supply chain in real time.
Mobile field software developer Vela Systems and building information modeling technology vendor Tekla Corp. allow stakeholders in construction projects to apply radio frequency identification and field software to stay on top of the constantly changing status of the supply chain in the field.
Building information modeling tools have traditionally focused on design and coordination, not supply chain management.
“Making critical aspects of supply chain management and field coordination centralized – and now even visual – represents a very significant step forward for technology-enhanced project control,” said Stacy Scopano, business development manager for Tekla’s contractor segment.
Tim Curran, Vela Systems’ CEO said, “now, by combining our solution with Tekla’s BIM software, AECO leaders enhance their decision-making with a total grasp on the materials available for construction.”
Skanska Building USA who has used the joint technology to capture data about building materials from vendors said it expects to expedite the construction project by 10 days. Skanska’s vice-president, David Campbell, said the technology gave them “a precise view of production management.”
