The IT staffing crunch just got crunchier. A recent poll by RHI Consulting in Toronto shows 22 per cent of CIOs surveyed were expecting to hire additional personnel in the third quarter. Only 1 per cent expected staff reductions. These numbers come from RHI’s quarterly IT Hiring Index and reflect anticipated third-quarter 2000 trends, as reported by 270 CIOs from a nationwide sample of Canadian companies with 100 or more workers.
According to RHI Consulting, e-business initiatives continue to stimulate hiring activity as more firms invest in Web projects to improve internal operations, increase productivity, and market products and services. As the need for skilled technology talent grows, businesses are focusing on training, including offering professional development programs for internal employees as well as entry-level candidates from universities and technical schools.
Among the hot hiring industries are: finance, insurance and real estate; transportation; retail; and professional services.
