When Sprint Corp. rolls out its third-generation (3G) network later this year, business users will be able to send their wireless digital images across the network, along with accompanying voice and text data, the company said Wednesday.
The service, which will be part of Sprint’s PCS Clear Wireless Workplace product suite, is being made possible through an agreement the carrier made with wireless imaging services provider ActivePhoto Inc.
When Sprint launches its 3G network, users will be able to take wireless digital images, label them with voice or text data and send them over the network to a Sprint Web site hosted by ActivePhoto, the company said. Once at the site, users can view, organize, manage, archive and share their images, along with the accompanying voice and data files.
The company said that it expects that the network will allow for more imaging capabilities once it develops, eventually letting users capture and send photos instantly with wireless-enabled digital cameras.
The Sprint 3G network will enable data services at a top speed of up to 144Kbps (bits per second), with average speeds of 50Kbps to 70Kbps when it rolls out this year. Within two years the company expects that the network will boast speeds of up to 2M to 5Mbps.
