Security software vendor Sophos has developed a cloud-based management console designed to help organizations with small IT departments to manage resources and thwart cyber attacks. The company is also expanding its portfolio of products with a new secure server option for customers on Amazon Web Services Marketplace, the online store that helps organization quickly buy and start using software and service that run in the company’s Elastic Compute (EC2) cloud.

The majority of enterprise organization do not have large and dedicated IT security team, according to Kris Hagerman, CEO of Sophos. He said these companies have been looking for security solutions are easy to manage and do not need technicians with specialized skills.

Sophos sells a bundle of security products ranging from firewalls to endpoint anti-virus to small and medium sized businesses under its unified threat management (UTM) segment. The Sophos UTM contains a general guide for each feature which makes it easy to use for operators that are not security experts.

Hagerman said the company has linked its UTM appliance its endpoint protection product to enable the two systems to share data and make it easier for small IT departments to manage security.

The company’s UTM Next Generation Firewall product which is being offered through the AWS Marketplace will also be augmented with a new security bundle called Sophos Secure OS.

Sophos OS will include pre-installed anti malware protection from the Linux distribution CentOS (Community Enterprise Operating System) in a single Amazon Machine Instance (AMI).

The secure server option will provide a time and money saving option for IT professionals building their own infrastructure security in a cloud-based server environment, said Sophos.

“In the cloud, security is a shared responsibility and the availability of Sophos Secure OS on AWS Marketplace provides customers with another great option to help them add additional layers of security to their enterprise applications on AWS,” said Terry Hanold, vice president, AWS Platform and Marketplace.
