SMC Networks Inc. today announced the release of its new Barricade Turbo 11/22Mbps Wireless Cable/DSL Router (model SMC2404WBR). The 802.11b-compliant router is platform independent and operates at speeds up to 22Mbps.
Part of SMC’s new EZ Connect Turbo line, the Barricade Turbo is designed to provide Mac or Windows users on small offices or home offices with shared wireless access to the Internet via a broadband connection like a cable modem or DSL interface. The new wireless router sports 64, 128 and 256-bit WEP encryption, along with an integrated 3-port switch — enabling wired computers on the LAN to likewise share the Internet connection. The router also features a 10/100Mbps WAN port.
SMC said the Barricade Turbo could be configured using a 3-click installation wizard. It also features Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) firewall security, MAC Address and IP address filtering, access control based on pre-defined schedules and Web sites and hacker attack detection and monitoring. It also sports support for Virtual Private Network (VPN) pass-through, if you’re trying to use a secure connection to telecommute to work.
SMC said the Barricade Turbo, which has a suggested retail price of US$185, should be available on the street for about US$140.
