IBM has now been around long enough that the average person can be forgiven for not knowing its initials stand for International Business Machines.
 
A company that started as a maker of cash registers slowly evolved into an organization focused on much more complex transactions, including the management of information across supply chains, through disparate systems and ultimately, between decision-makers. 
 
There have been a lot of ups and downs in Big Blue’s first century, but there has been a few that proved crucial to its long-term survival and growth up until now.
